Thermal phase transitions for Dicke-type models in the ultra-strong coupling limit

We consider the Dicke model in the ultra-strong coupling limit to investigate thermal phase transitions and their precursors at finite particle numbers NN for bosonic and fermionic systems. We derive partition functions with degeneracy factors that account for the number of configurations and derive explicit expressions for the Landau free energy. This allows us to discuss the difference between the original Dicke (fermionic) and the bosonic case. We find a crossover between these two cases that shows up, e.g., in the specific heat.Comment: 4 pages Brief Report styl

Phonon modulation of the spin-orbit interaction as a spin relaxation mechanism in InSb quantum dots

We calculate the spin relaxation rates in a parabolic InSb quantum dots due to the spin interaction with acoustical phonons. We considered the deformation potential mechanism as the dominant electron-phonon coupling in the Pavlov-Firsov spin-phonon Hamiltonian. By studying suitable choices of magnetic field and lateral dot size, we determine regions where the spin relaxation rates can be practically suppressed. We analyze the behavior of the spin relaxation rates as a function of an external magnetic field and mean quantum dot radius. Effects of the spin admixture due to Dresselhaus contribution to spin-orbit interaction are also discussed.Comment: 5 page, 2 figures, accepted in Phonons 2007 proceeding

Empirical study of the business growth strategy related to the added value by intellectual capital

[EN] Four consecutive years of more than a thousand Spanish companies from different economic sectors are analyzed to determine the influence of intellectual capital on the business growth strategy. One of the purposes of this work is to establish a classification criterion of the strategic behaviour of a company linked to the growth of three factors: the demand of the sector, the sales of the company and the financial sustainability of the company. Another purpose is to develop and validate an appropriate classification of where the value added by human intellectual capital is structurally concentrated and used according to the strategic behaviour, growth and sector of the company. Interesting conclusions are drawn about the strategic behaviour of the company and its intangible capital, as well as a different method for classifying companies according to their growth, which helps predict business profitability. The authors would like to acknowledge the grants T-CUE Doctoral prize for research on topics directly related to business needs, the grants of the PhD extraordinary award and the support of the University of Burgos to facilitate access to data gathering in relation to the work presented in the paper.

    Get PDF

In this article we present a comparison of the psychological and epistemological theories of Ramon Llull with philosophical doctrines of the 13th century. For this purpose, the Liber novus de anima rationali serves as the main reference because it is the only work by Ramon Llull which deals with the soul in an Aristotelian framework

Through an analysis of the films Altar mayor [High Altar] (Gonzalo Delgrás, 1944), El clavo [The Nail] (Rafael Gil, 1944) and Tuvo la culpa Adán [Adam's Fault] (Juan de Orduña, 1944), I attempt to support the hypothesis of a certain kind of expulsion of female characters in Spanish fiction films in the years immediately following the Civil War, which would not only exclude them through ideological discourse, but also through the mise en scène. The analytical method adopted here moves away both from historiographical approaches and from the politique des auteurs, as well as from cultural studies and other similar disciplines, to take a direction already begun by other authors towards a possible history of forms in Spanish cinema. I thus analyse questions such as the relationship of the actress with the shot and the narration, her disappearance from the borders existing between them, her conversion into phantasmagoria, and, in short, the construction of an alternative, rebellious story in opposition to the official one. To conclude, I argue for the possibility of viewing the actress’s body and gestures as instigators of a kind of materialist poetics in film analysis
